The following statement shows the re turns to the Diadem Gold Mining com jany, of Sumpter, from the Baker City Sampling works, on seven tons of ore irom that mine, under date of July u: Hought of the Diadem Gold Mining Co. Lot No., 68-i Description of ore, j$j sack Wet weight, 14,030 Per cent moisture, 5,l Dry weight, 13,063 Gold ounces, 7 Silver ounces 9.40 Cost of treatment J8.00 Net price per ton $130.50 Amount total $852.29 Freight at $7.00 per ton, $52.05 Net value of ore, $800.24 This Is the first lot of ore shipped by the Diadem people, but there will be itnnther ten tons sent to the sampling works this week, to he followed rapidly .by various lots from lime to time. Developing a Water Power. The survey lias been accepted and the contract let to Mr. J. While, of Baker City, for building the water Hume to .carry water to the power house to be erected on Pine creek, by the Starles com pany, owners and operators of the Cornu copia Mines of Oregon. Work will begin immediately and the plant will be in oper ation as soon as men and money can do the work. George Brown's sawmill is at work getting out the Hume lumber, it be 'ing eatimated that 150,000 feet will be necessary for this purpose. An additional 100,000 feet lias been ordered for the build ings. The flume will begin at or near the mouth of Elk creek and the plant will be located on the McDonald place about a unile below. The .power will be trans mitted In the form of electricity by trolley to the mill and mines about two miles away. Carson Tocsin. Reported Rich Strike in Red Boy. Attorney C. F. Hyde, who returned yesterday from a Hying trip to the upper country, reports that a rich strike was made in the Red Boy last Saturday even ing. Me was there when it was reported and .vas shown some of the ore. He says it was dazzling to behold and it was fully half gold the richest ore yet found in that fabulously rich mine. How extensive the body of ore of that grade is no one knows for it had just been broken Into. The strike was made In sinking a winze and was 40 feet below the lowest work ings of the mine. Democrat.
